Kent Cartridge was founded in 1996 by a small group of sportsmen who were debating the future of shotguns. Now, Kent Cartridge is a large, global cartridge business. The Kearneysville, West Virginia, Activ Cartridge facility was bought by Kent in 1997. This provided Kent with a base of operations in the beautiful and untamed state of West Virginia. By acquiring the Gamebore Cartridge Company in Hull, England, in 1998, Kent broadened its market throughout Europe.

The Kent-Gamebore Corporation was subsequently established and today operates all throughout North America and the rest of the world. The objective was to create a non-toxic shotshell with performance on par with or even better than premium lead waterfowl loads.
